Kerstin Luedtke

Kerstin trained as a physiotherapist in Hamburg, Germany and completed her academic training in Sheffield (MSc) and Birmingham (PhD) in the UK. She is currently professor for physiotherapy at the University of Luebeck.

Kerstin’s research interest is focused on pain mechanisms in general and more specifically on the role of physiotherapy for the management of primary headaches.

Most of her research on headaches is related to her work in the headache clinic at the University Hospital in Hamburg (Prof. Dr. Arne May).

Kerstin’s research experience, valuable publications (for some, see below) and clinical experience is uncommon in the primary headache area. This places Kerstin in a preeminent position to present on: ‘Treating the Upper Cervical Spine in Primary Headache - an Option or Not?’ at our symposium: ‘Turning Primary Headache Upside Down’ Milan, Italy 4th and 5th May, 2018.

Needless to say, Kerstin’s presentation will address the very core of the symposium and will likely lead to discussion around how best to educate the medical model on the potential role of upper cervical manual therapy in primary headache.

Kerstin si è formata come fisioterapista ad Amburgo, in Germania ed ha completato la sua formazione accademica a Sheffield (MSc) e Birmingham (PhD) nel Regno Unto. Attualmente è professoressa in fisioterapista presso la University of Luebeck.

La ricerca di Kerstin si focalizza sui meccanismi del dolore in generale e più specificatamente sul ruolo della fisioterapia per la gestione della cefalea primaria.

La maggior parte della sua ricerca sulla cefalea è in relazione al suo lavoro presso la clinica della cefalea all’ospedale universitario di Amburgo (Prof. Dr. Arne May).

L’esperienza di ricerca di Kerstin che comprende pubblicazioni di valore (vd. bibliografia a fondo pagina) e l’esperienza clinica sono rare nell’area della cefalea primaria. Questo la pone in una posizione preminente per presentare: “Trattare il rachide cervicale superiore nella cefalea primaria è un’opzione oppure no?” al nostro simposio "Tunring Primary Headache Upside Down". Inutile a dirsi, la presentazione di Kerstin si orienterà al nucleo centrale del simposio e molto probabilmente porterà a discussioni riguardo come sia meglio educare il modello medico sul ruolo potenziale della terapia manuale al rachide cervicale superiore nella cefalea primaria.
